The Black Horse, Leadgate, Co Durham
« on: Wednesday 08 May 19 16:26 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please help just by sharpening this old newspaper photograph.  I have no idea of which newspaper but it is dated around 1960.  This will become part of a not for profit local history project.  Many thanks

Thank you

This was an iconic local pub which eventually expanded into the building next door and was very successful for a further 20-30 years before closing its doors forever.  This is the only photograph of it that I have been able to find and you have made a poor press cutting into a decent photo.  Thanks again

To Trishanne and John-76

Thank you both for your efforts.  Later today I will be meeting an elderly gentleman who used to be the publican of this inn.  I am sure that he will be delighted to have a copy of this photograph and there will be a second copy for the local heritage group which has exhibitions 3 or 4 times a year.  It will also be shown at another exhibition in Leadgate village in December which will feature items on the many lost pubs in the village - which was within walking distance of the massive steel works at Consett in County Durham until they were closed and demolished ion the 1980s

Thank you japeflakes

This morning I passed all of these items to the two main local history groups in the area and they have caused quite a stir and will probably be used in a three day exhibition they are currently preparing together.  Prior to this we only had the poor newspaper photo you all worked on and a photo of the pub in a state of dereliction immediately prior to demolition
