The Electrical engineer., v.40 1906. London
« on: Wednesday 08 May 19 22:51 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
I'm looking for a digitised version of magazine:  "The Electrical engineer., v.40 1906. London". It has been digitized  by google but restricted to view online due to copyright. Here it says the original is from University of Michigan

https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/000554163

Page 393 shows a my ancestors patent application. Is there any chance to get at least one page without trip to  Michigan?

Thanks. I did found the patent alright. However this is something different-  a specialist magazine. As it was published in London in 1906 perhaps I should look there?
I found his other parent in a German book and it had some new information to the patent itself and discribing the invention by a reviewer.

I initially thought it sounded like a journal published by the (UK) Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), but I'm not sure.

Whether it was, or was privately published, it is possible that copies were retained by the IEE library.

The IEE has become the Institution of Engineering and Technology, but they still have a library and archives service.
https://www.theiet.org/publishing/library-archives/

The service is primarily for members, but they may be able to help non-members. The document supply request page suggests there would be a charge of 4 for 1-2 pages for non-members, which seems quite reasonable.  :)
https://www.theiet.org/publishing/library-archives/the-iet-library/research-and-document-supply/

It might be worth emailing them with the details of what you are looking for (and why) and see if they are able to help.

The alternative might be to try the British Library.

Nick many thanks for this. I'll certainly try these options.
There must be some other copy somewhere else.
The additional information is that the issue from 1903 has some additional detail added by Google: published Biggs & Company, 1903

I'm sure if you contacted the University of Michigan Library they would copy the page for you. Might be a fee which if you are outside the US can be a problem.  I've resorted to getting hold of a US$ 10 note and sticking it in the post before now, but usually a library can do a credit card over the phone.

(why they can't do paypal or something I DO NOT KNOW, but I have yet to find a US institution that makes it easy. And when I've asked for bank details to do an international bank transfer they have never known the correct sort codes - one institution even went so far as to ask their bank and they still got it wrong!)

The other issue I have had is that they won't always scan and email. Some places like to put their seal on the document and send it as hard copy.

This book and/or the page are available on-line to download.

I can post that page if you want.
Or you can use a proxie server or VPN service to get a US IP address and then there is no problem with viewing or downloading the book or that page.

When I switch to a UK proxie server (IP) I get the same message you're getting about "Limited(search only) due to copyright restrictions)". The problem appears to be based on your IP address.

That's a common problem that I encounter with Google's transcribed books - they are unavailable to addresses outside of the US because of supposed copyright issues [as if Ecuadorian copyright law offers any protection to old US publications].  I have to use a proxy server.
