Remember When....
« on: Saturday 11 May 19 15:08 BST (UK) »
I had to share this fascinating piece of social history, Carte de Viste dated 1870s from my collection.... this brought back memories of my Mum replacing the sweeping brush and dustpan for the latest must have Eubank carpet sweeper...Grandma said "It will never catch on, I'll stick to beating the carpets thank you very much!"  ;D ;D

What a wonderful old photograph Carol.

I remember a very old "carpet sweeper" my mum had back around 1950ish. I think it had belonged to her mum and she died in 1938. It was eventually replaced by a more modern version and eventually a "Hoover".

My parents had a Ewbank as a wedding present in 1937 & it was used till at least 2005; it was given to my [then] daughter in law & I fear she has disposed of it.

I have just bought one - a Bissell. :D Someone had bought one to use in the church, and I realised it was quite effective, so got one and disposed of a rather useless battery powered upright vacuum. (Which was also very heavy.) I do have an elderly Dyson pull-along vacuum cleaner as well.
