We may have the wrong William above!

What do you have so far on gg William? You have his birth from what you say I think. What were the details from that?

Have you found him on later censuses?

You mention a note of him in 1887, what was that about?

Who did he marry and where did he live in later years?

I honestly know very little, my great grandfather was born in January 1888 so the only thing i know is that his father visited dalserf in 1887 and by the time my great grandfather was married in 1913 his father's name was on the certificate with his occupation as lawyer.

I have been having a look through on the census transcripts for 1891 and 1901 and struggling so far to find a William Montgomery in the legal profession (incl clerk etc).

Hopefully others will be able to find more  :)

See section on law and legislation at above link, which mentions Index juridicus: the Scottish law list from 1852 onwards.

There was a William Montgomery, Writer to the Signet, Edinburgh, who was dead on or before 1908, but had a son,  Willam Harold Montgomery who married that year. A Writer to the Signet would have been a senior solicitor.

William was at 26 Rutland Square in 1871 and 1881 census, occupation noted as Writer to the Signet.

Might be worth checking him further.
