I'm not sure I am connected. I could be, but don't know for certain. Do you know if there are any available records for the Sydney 'area' which would confirm a death?

From a tree on Ancestry

The death on 2.10.1957 was William Edward (not Edwin) Ernest Newman b 6.6.1902 London - parents same as in my earlier reply so Edward may be a mistake by the tree holder

Spouse is shown as Lottie Jones b 1918 NSW.  No mention of Dorothy Millard or a marriage date to Lottie

Thanks. I had a look at that tree and I think it's pretty inconclusive. I couldn't see a link to any email address to attempt o make contact with the tree holder but thanks for doing so

There are a number of family trees on Ancestry which provide a host of information on William. I have been able to send an email to one of the tree holders - the one showing most information on William.

Hi,

Can SKS help in directing me, please?
I'm looking for a trace on William Edwin Ernest Newman thought to have been born in Peckham, London in 1902 and died somewhere in or around Sydney in 1957. Little else is known about him

Here is the live link to the NSW resources board, full of great live links to many free to search NSW resources:
Three options come immediately to mind for a search for a death that likely occurred more than 30 years ago in New South Wales…
NSW BDM online index for death
NSW State Archives online index for possible probate
Ryerson Index for possible newspaper cutting for death/funeral/probate announcement
All three of those organisations are included in the NSW Resources.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=369703.0

https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-research-nsw.aspx  (best option if you want a NSW BDM cert for family history purposes is to order an official transcription via the transcription agents noted on that website and on RChat’s NSW Resources)

https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/ (search by Collection & Research option can be a good option there, and if you want a copy of a probate record, you can ask for an RChatter to add it to their list for next visit to the Archives)

https://www.ryersonindex.org/

NSW BDM has a death registered in 1957 indexed as:
William Edward NEWMAN aged 56 years.  Death registered in Sydney.  #26728/1957.  Father ‘s given name displayed as Edward Ernest.

Edward and Edwin are interchangeable names in NSW.   NSW BDM do not undertake cross checking of the informant driven section of their death registrations, but the document does have the option to provide information about a) the deceased’s marriage/s, children of the marriage/s and b) the deceased’s parents and c) the usual address, occupation, and the age and place of birth of the deceased. Plus of course the medico signs off on the cause/s of death and the funeral director provides their information too, crematorium or cemetery and the funeral director lodges the paperwork.
