Sligo Birth 1886
« on: Monday 13 May 19 16:20 BST (UK) »
Hello,

One of my ancestors was born at Mount Shannon, Parish of Calry, Sligo in Oct. 1886.  I have tried to find out if Mount Shannon is a house or hospital, or area of Sligo.  Does anyone know if Mount Shannon is an actual building as I cannot find an area of Sligo with that name.  Many thanks

Carol

Please post link to the birth record from Irish Genealogy so we can see if there are any clues there.

Thanks EV for the very useful information and link.  Mount Shannon is obviously a fine looking house and I'm wondering how my ancestor came to be born there.  His family were not landed gentry.  Perhaps they worked there.
Thanks again

On the old maps it appears to be the house/estate Ev posted in the townland of Shannon Eighter

Well we can't comment as we can't see record.....  I imagine they are among these Birth results in Dromore West from 1886 to 1886 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01nsd/

Hi, thanks for all the replies.  The birth is not amongst those in Dromore West, the record name is Withers and the birth in Registrar District Sligo no. 1.  I just wanted to know what or where Mount Shannon is.
Thanks again
