St.Stephen's Day (26 Dec) the trades of Sligo held a procession.
At 1 o clock the processioniets assembled in the market house where they were address by ---Mr John Withers Tailors Society

Sligo Champion Jan 1891 [Sligo] Trades Council
among those who were also in attendance was John Withers

Many thanks to all for your replies.  My ancestor is indeed Joseph E Withers born at Mount Shannon and his father was John Withers the tailor mentioned in the Sligo Champion, thanks for that information, not seen that before.  Violet of the Birds Nest who I've just found out about was John Withers' granddaughter.  I'm pleased to receive all this information, thanks again

So John Withers snr married a Withers and and John jnr married a Withers - confusing  :)

Hello, thanks for your messages.  Yes you are right, two men named John Withers married their own first cousins.  It is confusing especially when they have the same name.  You've confirmed that my research is right!
