Latin will of John Coket 1479 - part 1
« on: Wednesday 15 May 19 13:28 BST (UK) »
Thanks again for all the help, a Coket family picture is forming, I just cannot join some of the bits together.

As usual I am just trying to sort out family groups and relationships so I don''t need a full transcription just the important elements, ie:-

Date of will
Date of probate
Names
Occupations
Relationships

many thanks again

5 April 1479
John Coket of Bury St Edmunds, of sane mind and good memory; my soul to God, the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints; to be buried at the church
Bequests to the church of St James at Bury St Edmunds, St Mary’s Chapel, the fraternity at Babbwell, and the shrine of St Edmund for repairs
To my wife Joan/Joanna, the property that I now live in, for her life
To each of my godchildren, 12 pence
To Margaret Symonds, 6 marks
Residue to my executors, to sell and distribute the proceeds for the good of my soul, in charitable relief etc., as seems best
Executors – Joan/Joanna my wife; John Coket of Timworth and John Bacon of Drinkstone, 3 shillings 4 pence each
Witnesses – John Pyee, John Lombe and others
Proved at Bury St Edmunds, 28 April 1479, administration to the executrix Joan/Joanna, John Coket and John Bacon having renounced

Many thanks, this lot really do not like leaving clues. However yet another one where all the remaining funds go to a church, monastery or the like and/or the poor.

It really shows where the church gained the monies and why Henry VIII wanted his hands on their bank accounts
