Ann Roberts nee Squires
« on: Thursday 16 May 19 16:36 BST (UK) »
I could do with a bit of help with Ann Roberts.  She was born Ann Squires in Hull in 1819.  Her first husband was Henry Sayle.  According to a newspaper article on her 100th birthday, Sayle was a sailor who drowned on the SS Enchantress.  Unsurprisingly I can't find a record of his death, and the only Enchantress sinking in connection to Hull that I can find was in 1882, which is way too late.  Ann married Thomas Roberts in 1873; he died in 1884.  Ann was admitted to the Charterhouse in 1905 and was "removed to the workhouse" in 1915.  (The newspaper article gets the dates wrong.)  The puzzle is that she is on the 1911 census as living or staying with her daughter's family.  I'd appreciate it if someone could find the entry for the Charterhouse in 1911 and see if they've got her on there as well.  She died in 1922 at the age of of 102.  Any gaps which anyone could fill in would be much appreciated.
