Hi guys, hope you all are having a pleasant evening.

Though I have been researching Irish ancestors for years, I have always had difficulties with Irish newspapers.

My great, great grandfather was a Royal Irish sub constable whom lived in the villages of Cappawhite from around 1878 to 1891 and Fethard in County Tipperary from 1891 to 1933.

His name was William Fitzpatrick, served from 1867 to 1899, number 33353.

I want to learn more about his career from newspaper articles, both local and national, where would I start?

Findmypast has Irish Petty Sessions records and a search of those may reveal cases he was involved with.

Try also the British Newspaper Archive. For example, the Kings County Chronicle for 28.3.1866 reports an assault in Cappawhite by Richard Fahy on Sub Constable Fitzpatrick.

7th August 1871, 
20th December 1871, fined 40 shillings 
22th October 1872  fined 60 shillings   
14th August 1874 fined 40 shillings

Yes I noticed the reprimands on his service record. Unfortunately the records that detail the cause of the punishments do not survive, which is a shame, all of them are quite large sums of money for the time.

I have checked all the court cases involving William, just wondered if there was more information in the papers on them
