Searching for inquests Elizabeth Hennessay
« on: Saturday 18 May 19 09:39 BST (UK) »
My 2nd greatgrandmother Elizabeth Hennessay (nee Adair 1837) according to her record of death was knocked down by an electric tramcar in Rochdale Road, Manchester on 14th March 1904. An inquest was held on 17th March 1904 by Ernest Gibson, Coronor for Manchester. Where can I find more details about her death?

Hi Trevor -- unfortunately only the records for 'significant' inquests are retained for lengthy periods. As a result I doubt you will find the actual inquest papers.

Your best bet will be on line newspapers. If you subscribe to Find My Past, or the British Newspaper Archive, try a search there by year and location. If you don't - let us know and someone may be able to find mention of the occurrence.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

The death was registered as Hennessy.  That's also the name in the Guardian's report of the inquest on 18 March 1904, page 3.

You'll need a sub or the free trial at newspapers.com to see the full article

There's also a detailed report in the Manchester Courier of 18 March (page 3) which has the name as Hennesy.

I found the Inquest file for my gt.uncle .....1902 in London, held at the LMA; not a significant one.

You might consider contacting the Manchester Archives and asking if they hold Elizabeth's file.
