Need help with James Carmody - Limerick
« on: Sunday 19 May 19 04:33 BST (UK) »
In 1910 James Carmody requested a search of the 1851 census for his parents, John and Kate Carmody in Gurrane Limerick which found a Catherine Carmody unmarried with son James aged 6 in the 1851 census. At the time of his request, James' address was Limerick 2/2

A Catherine Carmody was baptised 1809 in Fedamore Limerick - possibly his mother?

This Catherine Carmody also had another illegitimate child - Thomas Keating baptised 16 March 1830 Fedamore, father Edmund Keating, Gurrane.

I can't find James Carmody in the 1901 or 1911 censuses, or any other info about him. Can anyone help?

Edit - it was the 1841 census, not 1851 (my typo)

It wouldn't surprise me if he made more than one application for Pension...

Thanks hallmark, interesting results. Did people make these requests for pension purposes?

Ah, thanks :-) My James Carmody in Limerick in 1910 would have been 70 so that fits. I think the one in Co Clare is a different James Carmody.

However I found a possible family in the 1901 census - the address seems to match:
Residents of a house 15.2 in Mary Street (Limerick Urban No. 2, Limerick)
Carmody James 68 Male Head of Family R C  carpenter born Co Clare
Carmody Mary 52 Female Wife R C housekeeper born Co Clare
Carmody Sarah 22 Female Daughter R C  Dress ??? born Limerick
Carmody Edward 20 Male Son R C carpenter born Limerick

but I can't find a marriage for James to Mary or the births of Sarah or Edward. :-(

You can amend Search terms as needed..

e.g.
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
