Mary Walker
« on: Sunday 19 May 19 19:25 BST (UK) »
Hello all

I am looking for information about Mary Walker.  Born in Bermondsey, Surrey around 1870.  Father was William Walker and mother was Clara (surname unknown).  Mary married Alfred Richard Brand in 1893.  I am not confident I am following the correct parents.  I would like to know I have the correct William Walker and would also like to find Clara's maiden name.  William is shown on Mary's marriage record as already deceased, so unfortunately it does not show his occupation.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

The address is shown as Weston Street in the parish of St Mary Magdalen, Southwark for both her and Alfred.  The witnesses are Alfred Henry Stephen Hollis and Esther Hollis

I can see her in 1901 and 1911 and she's consistent with age birthplace. Again where did her mother's alleged name come from.? There a Rush niece (18y) with em in 1901. Was that the husband's side?

Is she Mary or Mary Ann?
There is a William Walker m. Clara Murphy in 1866 in Bethnal Green, and a child called Mary Ann, mmn Murphy, born in London in 1870.
How did you find out the mother's Christian name?

Is this the family that you think is Mary's in 1871:
Household             Role          Sex     Age   Birthplace
William Walker       Head       Male       42      St Luke's, Middlesex
Clara Walker         Wife        Female    28      b Holborn
Frederick Walker    Son        Male        15      St Luke's, Middlesex
Marrian Walker      Daughter Female    13      St Luke's, Middlesex
Alice Walker          Daughter Female    10      St Luke's, Middlesex
Elizabeth Walker    Daughter Female    4       St Luke's, Middlesex
Clara Walker          Daughter Female    2       City, London
Mary A Walker       Daughter Female    0       City, London

If so, I think William Walker married Clara Murphy in Bethnal Green registration district, June qtr 1866. This would have been a second marriage for him.

I am a bit suspicious whether she was the Mary Ann Walker born to William Walker and Clara mmn Murphy if she married as Mary Walker (no Ann).

To be honest I can't remember where the name Clara came from.  I think it might have been on a rough handrawn family tree done by a family member.  Mary Walker definitely married as Mary and not Mary Ann.  This family member has also shown Mary's children exactly as shown on the 1911 census.
