Hi David,
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl  Only shows Bernard but the marriage is in Chorlton.

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/index.php shows both parties and indicates Register Office or Registrar attended.
Perhaps they married in a Catholic Church?

just a thought ?
Baptism: 12 Jun 1881 St Mary RC, Oldham, Lancashire, England
Birgitta Moore - filia Thomae Moore & Rosae Annae (formerly Cahill)
    Born: 20 May 1881
    Godparents: Patricius Murphy; Birgitta Murphy
    Baptised by: Carolo Grymonprez
    Register: Baptisms 1875 - 1884, Entry 91
    Source: Original Register
possibly Bridgets baptism
..........................................
and possibly Bernards parents ? - both records Roman Catholic
...............................................
Marriage: 18 Apr 1881 St Joseph, Shaw, Lancashire, England
Bernardum Giblin -
Margaretam Doherty -
Groom's Parents: Patricii Giblin & Birgittae
Bride's Parents: Dominici Doherty & Catherinae
Witness: Josepho Graham; Maria Anna Doherty
    Married by: P. A. Baetings
    Source: Original Register
Shaw is in Oldham district as well
see if Bernard junior is with Bernard and Margaret in 1891 census ?

garstonite,

The marriage would be the father Bernard. It looks as though Margaret died in 1909.
