Valentine Clinch married to Ann Kelly 1850s
« on: Wednesday 22 May 19 02:43 BST (UK) »
About 1850 at Donore Joseph is born to Valentine Clinch and Ann Kelly. Four other children follow. Valentine is from the Clinch/Glynch family of Co. Wexford per the writings of Antony Ryan c.1939). Two of his boy leave for Nebraska, USA. Another son is father of P. J. Clinch of 1916 action and later Co. Meath politics. I have been unable to trace Valentine's lineage in Wexford. I wonder if Ann was a Wexford girl? Is she a Meath girl? Any living relatives in Co Meath area?

Datha,
Thank you. No, I had not seen the records you attached. A Peter Clynch is godfather for Richard born to Valentine and Anne 23 Feb, 1853 at Donore. That is only instance I have of a Peter in sacramental records. An un named Cl*nch, one of four brothers mentioned by Antony Ryan (c.1939), flees Kilrush parish in Wexford for Co. Meath. This unnamed Cl*nch is perported to be the father of P. J. Clinch. RYAN seems to have omitted a generation between the Wexford emigre and P.J..There seems to be more Clinch people in Co. Meath area than Ryan's story would suggest. I may have overstated the case when I earlier wrote that Valentine was from Wexford. If only one male fled north, Peter could be the man. All this makes me wonder what the kinship is between them? Too mangy missing pieces.

Patrick Joseph Clinch born 1887 in Crossmaglen,Co Armagh(his pension says 1889)

parents marriage 1884

in his pension application he says the Brits threw a hand grenade through his shop window for which he received compensation which he did indeed in 1924 giving his address as 115 Thomas St,Dublin

so this must be his marriage 1921 to Mary Brown

he had been in Liverpool prior to 1916 he said he came to Dublin around Jan 1916
this is likely him in 1911

the only fly in the ointment is he names his mother as Anne THORNTON on the church register,we know from the Bellew will that he is somehow related to Thornton's

Another thank you to dathai.
From the sacramental records of Donore, I gather three Clinch males were in the area in the 1850's: Valentine, Patrick married to Bridget Smith (Ptrk born'57, Mary born '59), and Peter. You have supplied me with lots of helpful info. I am aware of numerous Clinches in Dublin area. Your info tracks Val's descendents to Dublin to add even more complications to the task. up til now I had concluded that the Wexford branch was not immediately related to the Dublin group, but when Antony Ryan tells of one of a set of brothers going to  Co. Meath, he obviously meets up with and ties in to two other Clinch boys. This connection may go back to Battle of the Boyne period.
