Searching for the name of Michael Morrisroe's Mother.
« on: Friday 24 May 19 20:56 BST (UK) »

Hello

I am looking for the name of my great great grandfather Michael Morrisroe's mother.

Michael was born in 1818, died 1901 Templevanny area.  He married Elizabeth Padden born 1818 died 1910.  The family were RC.

I believe his father was Patrick Morrisroe but I cannot trace the name of his mother.

Any help at all would be very gratefully received.

Thank you very much.

Derrygolagh
Liz

Are you assuming Patrick was his father from this record? If so then it may not be so as Patrick is named as a witness and could be a brother, cousin, etc.
Ireland, Selections of Catholic Parish Marriages and Banns, 1742-1884
Michael Morrisroe
Marriage 12 Jun 1841
Spouse - Elizabeth Padden
Parish Boyle, Diocese Elphin, County Roscommon
First Witness - Patritio Morrisroe
Second Witness - Elizabeth Leland

Ah I see the Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915 record for Michael Morrisso has Patritio as a test. Short for testantur/testis?  Witness in Latin. So still not clear that the relationship is father to Michael.

Hello Crisane

Yes I was assuming that "Test" meant father, thank you for putting me on the correct track I will remember that in future.

I don't know many words in Latin.

So I can eliminate Patrick as his father but still need to find his mother.

Thanks very much for correcting me.

Regards.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

Hi
I only found out what 'test.' was short for by using a translator. :)
It could be that Patrick was his father and a witness to the marriage but can't assume it at this stage.

Hi Crisane

Thank you for posting again.  I suppose you can "Google" a Latin word for its meaning.

I have been scrolling  through the Microfilm records that Hallmark advised, haven't hit on anything yet but am going "boggle eyed".

I will keep trying and might hit on something.

Regards.
