BROOKS family in Felmersham in 19thC
« on: Monday 27 May 19 10:53 BST (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
I've been searching for a link to the BROOKS family of Rotherham, Yorkshire to the BROOKS family who seem to have lived in Felmersham for many generations.
Is there someone privy to the Parish Records there who could check for me whether there is a baptism c. 1854 for a George BROOKS, who by the 1881 Census had moved to Rotherham, working as a carter there.
And would anyone local to the area know whether there are any BROOKS headstones in the churchyard...
Many thanks in advance,
Keith

You may have already discounted this one but he could be this George

Bap 27 Jul 1853 Felmersham parents Arthur and Jane who he is with in 1861/1871.

If his marriage was to Mary Whitworth 25 Nov 1874 father on the marriage was Arthur.

Thanks so much for that,  Milliepede, that's exactly the right person.  Just wanted to make doubly sure!
And Rosie, that's a simply wonderful online resource,  aren't we lucky these days with stuff like this on the web...
Just the one BROOKS interral here,  but not belonging to this particular branch of the family, I'm afraid.

Keith, It is certainly well done with the maps as well.  It does not look as though my direct line were rich enough for grave markers though there is plenty else to look at.

Nor the BROOKS family, Rosie, it seems (able to pay for the cost of headstones...)

Thank you so much for all this extra info re Felmersham and the BROOKS family,  John and Steven...
Presumably when whoever it was did that survey of the inscriptions of the headstones in 1918 (was it?), some of the earlier ones had become indecipherable...or is there another burial ground there apart from the churchyard?
