India: how to order birth certificate

Hi, I'm new 
I want to order a birth certificate for a family member who was born in Bengal, India and served in the army there.
I have been trying to find somewhere/info online but am going around in circles getting really confused. Can somebody please explain how I go about it please?

I don't know anything about birth certificates (even if they existed at all) but I don't know whether or not you've seen the christening?

His father was a sergeant in the Derbyshire Regiment, 2nd Battalion.

The birth was registered by the British Army so you can order an overseas birth certificate from the UK GRO. Jubbulpore 1890 page 311.

I have a lot of info on him, I mainly wanted a copy so I could trace his parents, and you've told me who his dad is already, thank you so much!

I found my information on FamilySearch (registration required, free to use). There is also a marriage for those parents that looks appropriate, with fathers named The cert itself would presumably give more information though, such as occupations, addresses and witnesses.
