I have reason to believe that Issobell Innes born 1 March 1640 was the illegitimate daughter of  William Innes and Elspet Innes while still married to Issobel Innes

You expertise is again required for the atttached extract.

Definitely illegitimate - first line and a bit reads:

William Innes and Elspeth Innes ane docht[er] in fornicatioun
Her name Issobell

I can make out some of the other names, but will leave to others for now!

I feel that fornication is a rather weak word if this were a case of adultery. Maybe it is a different William Innes. Would Isobel Innes appreciate a child born in adultery being given her name?

In the meantime if someone could read this extract for me then perhaps the names shown might lead me to the right decision.

The capital letter looks to me more like a G than an E.

You can see the similarities to the G in George.

I acknowledge that the one in George doesn't have the upper loop, but that loop is more characteristic of a G of this time, and is not at all characteristic of an E.

However, I don't have an E to compare it to, so I will defer to SP if they say it's an E.

Although it looks like "homsonne", I wonder if it could be a poorly written simsonne (I can't find any surname that resembles Homson).

The last name is patrick walker. The l is like the l in Elspet.

I wasn't convinced about 'homsonne' either - there are a few Howieson's kicking about at that time, with various spellings.
