Rumbolds of Salisbury
« on: Wednesday 29 May 19 16:35 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm a bit stuck.  Looking into a branch of the family, the Rumbolds who all came from Salisbury.
I've found my 4x Great Grandfather, John Rumbold (b 1812 approx) in Salisbury. John later married Elizabeth Dinham (b 1807 approx) in July 1828 in Salisbury.  Can anyone assist with how I can go back further?

Initial searching reveals Rumbold was/is a very popular name in Salisbury!

Many thanks,

Greetings.

Do you have the names of their children?  Occasionally naming patterns can give a clue to parents or siblings.

There are some Parish Register transcripts on the Wiltshire OPC website.

Nothing much for St Thomas & St Edmund?
Cathedral & Close has the 1828 marriage, but not John's baptism.

Maybe he came from another parish?

If I'm looking at the right family they had 2 children at Salisbury - Harriet 1828 and John 1831 - and in 1841 (when ages rounded down) John is bc.1811.   However, in 1851 John is shown as bc.1808 Wincanton, Somerset.

There seems to be just one baptism there: John bp.28/1/1804 Wincanton, Somerset, son of David and Elizabeth.

John Rumbold 52 (bc.1805) buried 30/11/1857 Salisbury Cemetery, husb. of Elizaeth.

This ties in with the 1804 baptism at Wincanton.

Thanks all, definitely some good leads to start exploring.

In reply to an earlier message, John Rumbold's son, also called John Rumbold was born in 1832 and married Mary Wallis in 1855.
