He may well have died in April 1911 but that would be registered in the June quarter.

I think that the registers for Christ Church Ashton are on microfilm at Tameside Local Studies. I will try to check Henry and Nancy's marriage in 1875 next week.

Thanks.  It would be amazing if you find it.  It could have all kinds of validating evidence.

I couldn't find it on the Lancashire Online Parish Clerk Project, but I am not very expert using that website.

Don't worry if you can't, or if it is too far to get to. I might be able to order the marriage certificate from the GRO, using the reference volume 8d page 798, March 1875, Ashton under Lyne.

Only do it if it is very, very easy. They might not have more than the GRO reference number anyway.  I can probably only get a copy of this marriage record from the GRO.  Marriage records are only slightly more expensive than the pdf's they do for births and deaths.

Thanks.  I have Henry's birth certificate that gives his date of birth as 19th August 1853, born Manchester.  He is on the 1861 census living in Downith Lane, Charlesworth, with his mother, grandmother and cousin, so if Nancy was on the 1861 census living in Downith Lane, Charlesworth, he would probably have known her.

He would never have known his grandfather Henry Greenwood, who died in 1847, so wouldn't even have known him as a father substitute.

Age 30 would make him born in 1845.  His grandfather, Henry Greenwood, was a Carder.  No father mentioned on his birth certificate.

Very mixed, some things saying this is the right person.

He has a huge number of descendants, so I might get a DNA match one day with somebody who has traced back to him or his children or grandchildren.

I am fairly sure it is the right person.  Nancy Radcliffe is on the same page of the 1861 census, age 8 born Hollingworth, Cheshire, with her stepfather Moses Cooper, mother Sarah and younger Cooper siblings, including Sarah Jane Cooper age 6 born Charlesworth, Derbyshire, as Henry Greenwood and his mother, grandmother and cousin, in Downith Lane, Charlesworth.

There is a marriage between Moses Cooper and Sarah Radcliffe, on 17th December 1854, Ashton under Lyne, fathers Moses Cooper and James Radcliffe.

GRO has Nancy Ratcliff born 1853, S quarter, in Ashton under Lyne, no mother's surname given.
