Many thanks Kay99 and Osprey - apologies for the delayed response. As finding a birth is a bit like winning lotto I'm searching again for his death - similar but slightly better odds. Again your thoughts will be much appreciated.

William, (over-written William Thomas) as per previous post, appears in the 1939 Register at 'Norwood', Monkmoor Road, Oswestry, listed as a County Court Bailiff (retired Police Sergeant, Denbighshire Constabulary). Owestry Family History Soc were unable to find any reference, surprisingly given his occupation and I can find no Police records to check - the Denbighshire files at Ruthin can only be accessed in person so next UK visit!

The last record of William is a family funeral notice in April 1945. I believe he had died by 1968 latest. At this stage I shall buy the most 'likely' death cert, and hope! Unless you know better.  ;D ;D. Thanks

Thanks Gadget. There's also William T Davies for 1965 JQ Wrexham 8a 454 and 166 JQ St Asaph 8a 550. As GRO don't list digital versions after 1957 it remains a guess as to what the 'T' stand for but the Oswestry one is the best maybe. Guess it's time to throw money at it - again! Cheers

if you're trying to trace further back, you may do better to get the marriage cert for Robert Hughes & Elizabeth Davies as names & occupations of fathers should be on there. The death cert won't give you any family details.

I checked the available online newspapers circa 1966 but didn't find anything. I would think it might have appeared in the Oswestry Advertiser/Shropshire Star or the Wrexham Leader. I'll do a wider date search later.

Where were they living or what was the RD when his wife died?

he married Priscilla in 1908

Possibly the death in Richmond on Thames giving a dob of 8 Aug 1885? Although there is one in Manchester with dob of April 1888.

Details suggest birth of 1883 (see the death record that I found)  1911-28 = 1883.

Richmond on Thames seems a long way from Oswestry/Llangollen.  I grew up in that border area.

Did you mean his wife's death?  Sorry.

Add - if so the Manchester one looks the closest.   I'll check for her birth as I was born in the same village as Priscilla  :)
