No record of death in NZBDM

Hi there - I wonder if someone with a much better developed skill set than mine obviously is could possibly assist???  I mean, seriously, it should be a simple thing that I apparently haven't managed to master:(

I know Edmund Herne Cording born in England 1789 died in New Zealand (Wellington area) on 31st Oct 1842~!  But I have been unable to find a record of his death in NZBDM despite trying a few name variations.

Aside from the obits in the paper I have this nugget of info... although I am not sure it would affect the actual recording of the death would it?

I can't find a specific birth record for him to confirm the info I have for his parents in the UK; so wanted to verify the facts against his death cert.

Not good news. This from the NZ BDM website........

"Births and deaths have been officially recorded since 1848".

This looks like his death recorded in the newspaper

 "Died. — On Monday, the 31st- October, and buried on the Sunday following, Mr. — Cording, after an illness of about three weeks. "

In those days it would have been unusual to wait almost a week before burial

Yes I had that bit of information Janette... but was hoping to locate an actual death cert in order to validate family information that I have.

Oh well, I guess I will turn to other sources.

Oh wow - that link is fantastic!  Thanks very much.  I  obtained their last London address which may prove useful... but more importantly, this comment caught my eye "Relationship to Settlers    COUSIN !".

I am interpreting that comment that Edmund Herne Cording had relatives in NZ who were earlier arrivals.  I wonder if there is a way to verify that and who they may have been.
