Immigration to America
« on: Sunday 02 June 19 21:41 BST (UK) »
 - Can anyone possibly help after years of searching for my great grandfathers sister and her further life and family in America?: Molly E. Jensen/Molly Elise Sandbaek Jensen, born 9th of November 1868 in Denmark, immigrating to America the 21th of February 1889, aged 20 . . . on the ship Hekla ll from Copenhagen. Destination . . . Avoca in Iowa. - Contract nr.: 18800 and ID code D8789J5101. - She reached America the 8th of March. - Would be ever so grateful for any helpful reply to this "riddle". -

Welcome to RootsChat.  A moderator will probably move your post to the United States board where it will receive more attention.  Unfortunately, your relative arrived in North America at a bad time.  The 1890 US census was almost entirely destroyed by fire so there are no national records until the 1900 census by which time Molly was probably married and using a different name.  I will have a look to see what I can find.  Were there other family members in Iowa?

Do you have her parents' names?
Some death records asked for them and if the survivor/informant remembered correctly, you can sometimes find people regardless of their surname at death by searching for only the parents' names.

Nice work. Who needs her parents' names?  :)
Clicking on her name on the marriage record, shows that there is a linked tree from a user at familysearch.
