Jones children at Bry Gole farm Llanmoren Denbighshire
« on: Monday 03 June 19 02:26 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather was fostered out to relations when he was 2
His 3 year old sister was with an uncle while his baby sistsr was with their parents.and a couple of his cousins.1851

I was told he was adopted but found him with his father and 3  siblings in 1861

He was married and lived in Birkenhead but retired back to Wales had strong attachment to people there and separated from  his 2nd wife when my grandad was a teenager.

With help from wonderful rootchatters I now know the relatives who he was with in 1951 and 1871 as visitor were David b 1813 and Martha JONES of Bry Gole farm

I havent found evidence of them having children but in 1881 they have "grandchildren "
Thomas Edwin JONES age18 and
 Eleanor JaneJones age 5

Also there in 1891
 aged 28 and 15

With another grand daughter elizabeth aged 17

I think they may have been foster parents but some family connection .

Great uncle to my grandfather Abiah and his sister Harriet who was also visiting in 1871

Abiah has  various places of birth on different documents
 ( great Broughton.ashto .chester. lancs .waterloo.denbigh )

But these other children and ancestors consistently denbighshire

ABIAH.s father  joseph JONES b 1827 Llanorman

Gfather william Jones b1801

I think David is his grandfathers brother
Their father John Jones b 1878

They were mainly farmers but also connected to butchers trade and innkeeping .

I have another thread about Enoch Jones b1818
Who i thought was josephs brother but now believe is his uncle

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=807143.msg6746198#msg6746198

They seemed to look after each others children in difficult years

 josephs wife died in 1857

&  Enoch was admitted to asylum in 1862
I think itsEnochs  children who are with Joseph as  "neice margaret 9 and nephew john 11"
when his own chidren Dorcas 3   with an uncle and abiah 2 with great uncle.david

But who are Thomas Edwin and Jane Eleanor JONES ?

David and martha also took in a neice in 1881
Mildred mary BILL aged 23
She died age 25 so I wonder if she went to the farm for her health

Her parents were William BILL + Charlotte Thomas who had many other children but I don't know how they connect to David + Martha

Given Charlotte Thomas was from Llanarmon I suspect the connection is on her side. I think the relationship given on the censuses with this lot are a little loose!

I thought that too Mabel
How can they have grandchildren if they don't have children .
I thought one of the older BILL siblings may have married a Jones .

So many common first names and surnames in this lot .

At least Mildred is a bit different .

Thomas Edwin must have quite a strong connection as he takes on Bryn Goleu and runs it in later years

Very helpfully his mother's maiden name is also Jones!

If you look carefully at the 1901 census, Martha Jones is listed as a separate household at the same address, a widow living on her own means.

It looks like Thomas could be the son of John and Rebeckah Jones of Rhewl Galed (or Rhewl Goch), Llanelidan. There's a Thomas E who fits and is with them on 1871, and in 1881 they have a daughter Elizabeth aged 7.  There's a Rebecca Jones the right age pre marriage that would fit (and a John JOnes - Rebecca Jones marriage in Ruthin district in 1862)

I had a different 1901 census for Martha Jones widow with a nephew
But found correct 1 thanks to you .

Do you think Rebekka or John Jones parent of Thomas Edwin was actually David and Martha s child ? I've put them as foster parents and hypothetical on tree for now .

Btw John fits the age for "nephew" who was living with my great grandfather innkeeper butcher Joseph Jones in 1851 in Abbott street

I think Rebecca may be the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Jones of Tyddyn Ucha

"helpfully" they have a brother in law in residence in 1871 - his surname is also Jones!

John Jones is more of a challenge - only clues are b LLanarmon c1838 and middle initial D

Thanks ...I haven't found Thomas Edwin Jones running the farm yet

Good find for parents of Rebekka

I've got 3 other examples of Jones marrying Jones including my 2nd cousin.
