Danish family Prebensen arrival in New York
« on: Tuesday 04 June 19 00:21 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone :)

I have been trying to find out on what ship and the details surrounding my great great great uncle Johannes Prebensen and his family's voyage from Denmark to the USA. At first I made a guess they left from London England, but if you look at the London post I placed here https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=813585.0 it is unsure if that is correct. But what was discovered, from Johannes' naturalization paper is that he arrived with is family in New York in May, 1872. I have tried to search with passenger list under the name 'Johannes' and 'Prebensen' as well as his children's christian names, but to no avail.

The Prebensen family was:
Johahannes (aka John) b. 1825  d.1890 (Neenah WI)
Ane (aka Anna) b.1835  d.1915 (Neenah WI)

children
Karen (aka Carrie) b. 1861  d. 1924 (Neenah WI)
Jens Peder (aka Peter) b. 1864  d. 1944 (Neenah WI)
Juliane (aka Julia) b.1867  d. 1951 (Neenah WI) naturalized citizen in 1924
Christiane b. 1871  d.? (Neenah WI)

Any help or assistance to their trip to New York would be wonderful.

Ashley

If I am not mistaken,  the family is on lines 494 to 499 on this page of the manifest.

Indexed as Peterson at familysearch and as Kesterson at ancestry. Given names similarly mauled, both by the person recording the information and by the indexers. Here is Ann at familysearch.

arrived 17 May 1872 according to ancestry's index page. you should be able to verify that by paging back in the manifest to page one of the ship.

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1891
Name:   Ann Peterson
Event Type:   Immigration
Event Date:   1872
Event Place:   New York City, New York, United States
Gender:   Female
Age:   37
Birth Year (Estimated):   1835
Birthplace:   Sweeden
Ship Name:   City Of Brooklyn

PS. I think I found originally it by looking at ancestry.com for "Karen", approx. age, and arriving in 1872 exact. Karen became  "Karon Kesterson" in the results. Then used just "Ann" and her  birth year to find it at familysearch.

Hi oldohiohome,

Many thanks for that - terrific find, I doubt if I would've found that.

Warmest regards,

Ashley

Many thanks RJ137, I very much enjoyed reading those obituaries... very interesting how they died.
