Hough-Haxell Marriage 1940

I'm searching for a marriage for Joseph Harold Eric Hough, and this is the only JHE Hough I can find nationwide in the time frame.

Are these the first names of the groom here?  Are there any indications as to occupation, age, father or whatever?

Any help will be appreciated - if for elimination purposes only.

Looks likely to be a match - it’s very close to where he was in 1939 (free index).

They ended up in Australia, I think?

Listed as Joseph Harold Hough (architect) and Edith Mary Hough in a 1980 Canberra electoral register.

Emigrated 11 April 1956 on the Arcadia, London-Sydney:

Joseph Harold Hough born 11 April 1909, architect
Edith Mary Hough born 22 August 1916

Plus 3 children born 1943-1953.

Thank you both for these details.  Architect would be a step up as his father (if this is 'my' Joseph) was a Shropshire railwayman (Ernest Hough).  His birth was registered April-May-June 1909.

Well he started out in local government.  Have you looked at his entry in 1939? We can’t provide details on here.

Joseph Harold Eric Hough born 11.05.1909 was admitted to Hurdsfield Trinity Square school on 12 January 1914.

Father: Ernest, of Alderley View, Higher Hurdsfield.

It’s exactly a month out on birthdate compared to the JHE Hough who turns up in Ipswich and then emigrates to Australia, but I’d think it’s just an error in the school record and it’s all the same man.

Hurdsfield is in the Macclesfield area, perhaps 35 miles from Market Drayton, Shropshire.  One could see that as a possible re-location or posting for a railwayman.

The (incorrect) month could be a simple clerical error, as you say.
