Toronto obituary help
« on: Thursday 06 June 19 23:23 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any obituary for Robert John Thomas, his wife Catherine and / or their son John Robert Thomas.

I know its a long shot ..... but any help is appreciated.

Robert John Thomas died in 1987 and is buried at Pine Hills. I have contacted the cemetery but they have no information. According to his sister Harriet's will, Robert John lived on Floyd Ave. in Toronto.

I have no info on his wife Catherine (Katherin) or son J.R. Thomas.

Again, any help is so appreciated.

Newspapers.com has a free day at the moment

https://www.newspapers.com/search/#lnd=1&query=John+Robert+Thomas+Toronto&dr_year=1987-1988&p_place=Canada

But so far I’ve not found anything

Think you probably need the Canadian obituary expert Run Kitty - Sadly, Toronto papers don't seem to be covered by Newspapers.com at the moment.
Run Kitty may have helped you on previous occasions.

Hi,

Yes, I have had a look for this obit before - no luck.  I couldn't find it by name, and I couldn't find it by date.  Lorrainec had a date of burial (very helpful), so I checked all obits for several days before that date and up to that date.

Yesterday, I checked all obits for a few days after the burial date as well.  No luck.

In the previous thread, you said his wife was Kathleen Kerr McLeod.  In this thread, you said his wife is Catherine/Katherine?    Did he marry again, or did Kathleen use the name Katherine?

Good to see you have a son's name now.  That could be helpful for searches.

If there is no obit for Robert John, maybe something can be found for John Robert...or perhaps Kathleen/Katherine?

Hi - I live in Toronto, so I looked up Floyd Avenue.  It is in the east end of the City (East York) and runs off of Logan Avenue.  Would you believe I used to live on Logan?  Small world.

Hi everyone. Yes I had posted before but now, as RK says, I have the name of Robert John's son.
I got that information from Robert's sister Harriet's will. She left him and his wife plus their son a small stipend.

In the will, Robert's wife is called Catherine but on the marriage registration of Robert, it is printed as Kathrin. (I was mistaken with the Kathleen name ... sorry)

Ever hopeful something will come up!  He should be on the 1931 census, as he arrived in Canada in 1927.

1931 Canadian census due 2023.

The latest is the 1926 Prarie Census released in 2018.
