Hi ,

Scottish BMD's are available on Scotlandspeople(with the normal restrictions on modern certificates)-

Hi,

You can search Scottish Quaker Births 1647-1874, Marriages 1656-1875 and Deaths 1667-1878 on www.scottishindexes.com

Many thanks. Unfortunately, they're all too early for me! I'm guessing the birth I'm seeking was probably ca 1920, and no earlier than 1890.

If they were born between 1890 and 1920 in Scotland, you can get the birth certificate at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Can I search that site, or do I have to know which certificate I want?

The indexes are free to search , but you have to register with Scotlandspeople..

Quote
The newly available records consist of 98,554 Scottish births in 1918, 38,271 marriages in 1943 and 63,311 deaths in 1968.
These are the latest records that are available to view online(for a small fee) , outwith those dates a certificate would need to be ordered(£12 ?).

Thank you.

The information I have is very vague. I know people are very kind, and I don't want to waste their time chasing phantoms. All I know for certain is that the person I seek is Mary CARROLL, and that she was in Queen Charlotte's Hospital, London, in May 1939 (a lead which I am pursuing separately). Also, she stayed in a London guest house, but not for long enough to have been recorded in the 1939 Register.

Hearsay has it that she was from a Scottish, Quaker, family and that she was in London with her sister (name unknown). My guess is that she was aged between 18 and 45, and probably towards the lower end of that range.

I should appreciate any help, but the whole thing is so nebulous that it's probably a waste of time.
