Place of birth for year 1784
« on: Saturday 08 June 19 07:00 BST (UK) »
Hello - I have a Scotlandspeople death cert for 1855 for Knockbain.  It says the person has resided in Knockbain for 44 years - and was aged 71 at his time of death.  His birthplace is illegible.  Can anyone determine what it might be?  I cannot find his birth to his parents noted on his death cert, nor can I find his marriage to either of the two wives mentioned, nor the births of his two sons to the said two wives.  I believe I may have him in an 1851 census, but it doesn't seem to tally whatever this birth place is.  At the moment I would just like to see if anyone can tell me the birthplace.  Thank you in advance.

Anne

The image is very small and blurry when enlarged.

Urquhart seems to fit but in the future if an image on an SP certificate is not clear enough to read, you can request a rescan. They are very good with those kinds of requests.

Urquhart

I agree - when enlarged it's Urquhart

I used to travel through that area when I lived in Wester Ross.

Thank you very much everyone.  I had suggested to the person I am helping that she approach Scotlandspeople for a rescan.  The whole document is as bad.  An 1851 census says Ferintosh was his birthplace so I am thinking Urquhart is right and the 1851 census is probably him.

The cert is pretty clear. I think it's the writing that's shaky

If you click on the zoom in on the viewer, you can get it as large as you wish.

I'm not sure what form you have the original in. Was it saved directly as a jpg or as a pdf?
