This is a signature and message written on an old photograph but we're not sure what it says. The photo is of an ancestor who was an actress in the early part of the last century. Her stage name was Mamie Stuart but her real name was Charlotte Holford (born Charlotte Webb), known to her family as Lottie. The photo was probably given to her brother and sister in law (John and Sara) as it ended up in the possesion of their daughter.
The first line looks like Yours sincerely but the second line doesn't say Mamie or Charlotte, can any one decypher what it says. NB She is in costume as a pirate in the photo so this may have some bearing on what she was written.

It could be "Yours sincerely" though sincerely seems a bit too short.

The rest of it, something like:

Rodha --lara
Rodha --care

 :-\

(dashes are where I can't work out any letter/s)

It does look like Rodha Hare or Care but neither makes any sense. As it was sent to her family it could be a message rather than a signature. Anyone else have any ideas?

I have no reason to doubt the provenance of the card, but writing "Yours sincerely" on a card sent to family seems very formal. Maybe "sincerely" is not right?  :-\

'Yours' and 'Rodha' are the only words which (I think) are discernable.

I googled Mamie Stuart, what a sad end to her life    :(
I then tried Mamie Stuart Rhoda in case it was a misspelling of a part she'd  played, but found a My heritage page about Rhoda Yon who had 9 siblings including Mamie Stuart (born Larken). This seems quite a coincidence!  Does Larken mean anything to you?

There were two Mamie Stuarts - not sure which one we are dealing with here. The one from Sunderland  was murdered in South Wales in 1919.
