I'm not experienced in this sort of thing at all but is it a Latin representation of the name JEREMY?

Well, if it is, then an online search did not show it. But this is not a Catholic parish register in any case.

Hi

A guess but when I googled to convert Jeremiah into Latin, the first item to come up stated -  ‘From Latin - Jeremias’.

Bearing in mind the writer didn’t have thr benefit of Google or Rootschat in those days, could the Father’s name have been Jeremiah.... I wonder.

Cheers

But the issue with that, again, is that this isn't a Catholic register using Latin. This is a civil registration. Have never seen Latin in those, and none of the other names are in Latin.

No, it's probably just a matter of the priest writing the father's name in Latin from habit.

Maybe. But not quite Latin. Wasn't there even a name for the very poor Latin some priests used?

Are you thinking of Pig Latin?
That’s something different.
