Sun Street, Oldham
« on: Monday 10 June 19 22:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to locate where Sun Street in Oldham was around the 1920's. I am looking to find which churches are nearby in order to look for a grave I've been unable to locate (in another thread). I think this is the best route forward as they, Mark & Elizabeth Dale, must be buried in a churchyard somewhere.
Thanks, luke

Quite probably in a municipal cemetery?
I don't think that church graveyards were still in use in 1920's?

I have copied this from the Oldham page on GenUKI:

The person to contact about all the public cemeteries in Oldham is:

The Registrar of Cemeteries and Crematorium
    Environmental Services Department
    Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council
    P.O. Box 30
    Civic Centre
    West Street
    Oldham
    Lancashire OL1 1UQ

    Telephone No: 0161 681 1312
    Fax: 0161 683 5233
    Email:ENV.Cemeteries@oldham.gov.uk

The municipal cemeteries and their opening dates are as follows: Chadderton (1857), Greenacres (1857), Lees (1879), Royton (1879), Failsworth (1887), Hollinwood (1889) and Crompton (1891).
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Looking on the front page of the 1911 census, the district was Coldhurst in the parish of Holy Trinity

If you look on this map, find Coldhurst Hollow and Sun Street would have been near Anchor Street

Oldham municipal cemetery records are on line here - http://apps1.oldham.gov.uk/bacasweb/GenSearch.aspx

There's no Mark I can see but several Elizabeths.

Thank you everyone. I cant find any burial detail for them in any of the cemeteries or for cremation despite have exact dates of death so just assumed they must be buried within a church yard somewhere close to their home.

Thanks for the help; the comparrison map is fantastic Stanmapstone.
