Allen / Allan Stevenston

Hi All,

I am looking for info on the Allen / Allan family of Stevenston. John Allen married Jean Reid 1806 and I think they had a son John Allen 1809.

I am looking to go further back on this line if possible and also the above family ended up in Australia although I cant find any details of them in passenger lists which is frustrating.

Any pointers appreciated.

Just in case you were not aware of it, there are censuses available for Stevenston before 1841. They should be available on line.

I have had a look at those earlier censuses for 1819, 1822 and 1836. None of them show a John Allan.

All three show James Allan, a smith, and his wife and children living in Boglemart.

All three show Widow Allan (Jean Barr) and her children living in Kyleshill.

The 1836 one additionally shows "Mr Allan" and "Mrs Allan" with two daughters living in Canal Street.

GR2, where would I find those censuses? I had never heard of them before!
I'm really excited to see them, it may help with a puzzle I have right now.
