Abbey Park Road in Leicester.
« on: Wednesday 12 June 19 10:28 BST (UK) »
Just wondering if anyone with local knowledge could help me please. I have just taken delivery of a 1947 Kellys disc for Leicester. I am trying to locate some ancestors living in Abbey Park Road. They were living there in the mid 1920s but the disc is only showing Abbey Park Road dwellings with odd numbers to the properties no even numbers.

I am kind of assuming perhaps one side of Abbey Park Road was redeveloped  :-\

Many thanks in advance Steve ;)

I have the hard copies of Kellys 1951 and 1960. The only even numbered houses in both are 4, 6, 8 and 10 (between Hampden Street and the canal bridge. As shown on Xinia's map one side of the road is taken up by the abbey and Abbey Park.

Hi Xin, Stan and Alan,

Many thanks for answering my query so quickly and for the information you all supply.  ;D

I haven`t rechecked my disc just yet as I was so pleased to get the replies and for the information they supplied that I wanted to answer them first best as I can.

I am trying to locate the occupants of number 8 Abbey Park Road. I know the occupants in the mid 1920`s but I don`t know anything thereafter. I have a vague recollection they may well have still been there in 1939 when the register was recorded but unfortunately this was only a hunch at the time of my researching as one of the occupants remarried and threw me off the scent and my membership subscription to that particular website has long expired.

Hope this helps a little.

Many thanks Steve  ;)

8 Abbey Park Road = Thompson in 1939

1951 and 1960: Herbert J Thompson

(Strangely, only No. 10 is listed in the 1938 Kellys which is a sweet shop)

Thank you very much for your latest reply Alan.  ;)

Since my post earlier this afternoon I have had the chance to recheck the 1947 disc. Abbey Park Road shows the road starting at No.1 (28 Belgrave Road in brackets) going along all odd numbers to number 115 before Abbey Lane then The Abbey grounds, River Soar Bridge and Canal Bridge followed by Mrs Edith Tugby, Confectioner at No.10 before ending at Hampden Street.

I am looking for confirmation regarding Mr Joseph B Thompson and his wife Elsie.

I am reasonably sure BumbleB has confirmed the correct Thompson family for 1939 as I also recollect seeing this entry when I had subscription but unfortunately failed to keep a printed record or copy.

At present I am unsure who the Herbert J Thompson is for 1951 and 1960.  :-\

Many thanks Steve
