Cemeteries/Graveyards

My grandfather often said that the emptiest place in his village was the local cemetery - as everyone's soul is in Heaven.
Do we I wonder make too much of it when we take flowers etc on to the graves of loved ones?

My late father was cremated in the late 70's and his ashes interred in the C of E Churchyard near where he lived. 
Soon afterwards I felt it was the 'wrong' place for him and with the support of the local clergy his ashes were moved and re-interred in his home village Methodist Cemetery. My family were happy for this to take place but I think most of them thought it a waste of time re-burying a pile of ashes.

I think you are right. 

Funerals and all the trappings and rituals are not for the dead - they are past caring. They are for the living, the grieving, those who are left behind. And most people like somewhere to go, to be close to their loved ones. And having a place that is 'right' is far better than the communal 'Rose Garden' at the the local crematorium.
