There was a Catherine Neale transported for 7 years in 1836 by the Cetral Criminal Court. No details given

There is a tree on Ancestry which gives some information, including the year of her transportation, 1836 but no details of her convictions etc.  A bit odd because one of my ancestors was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1843 and there is loads of info about her on various sites, both in UK and Australia - I checked for Catherine Neale on a couple of sites where my ancestor is shown, but nothing relevant came up.  There is a baptism of a Catherine Neale in Westminster, Middlesex in 1805, parents Dennis Neale and Mary.  Apart from that I can't see anything.

The same tree suggests that William James was probably a free settler.  There are 3 other trees regarding William James.

The only William James born in England on 15 December 1799 was born in Stoke Dameral, Devon and baptised on 6 November 1800, parents William James and Jane.  The only Liverpool connection seems to be on the Ancestry tree (of Catherine) with a note which states that at some point he lived in Liverpool Street.

Of course this could be a complete red herring.

I saw that but, for some unknown reason, decided it was a different Catherine Neale.  Looking on an Australian convict site there is more than 1 Catherine Neale, one about 5-6 years younger than the one who married William James.

Phil - if you have access to Ancestry it's easier if you click on Search, then Public Member Trees and type in her name and year of birth (1806) and 2 trees come up called, Burgess Family Tree and A Golden Variety Tree.  If you go to Burgess Family Tree you can see the info they have.  Whilst you're on the tree if you click on William James name on the right hand side of Catherine's page, his details will come up.  Next to his name at the top of the page is a photograph of a document.  Click on that and you can read more info about him.  Under occupation is the note about him living at Liverpool Street.

You can always contact the tree owner to see what other information she has.

This Catherine Neale was sent to New South Wales 1836 on the Sarah and Elizabeth

https://www.digitalpanopticon.org/life?id=obpdef1-2013-18360815

There is a Catherine Neale sent to Tasmania 1836 on the Westmoreland, but she has a marriage permission record for 1842

https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=def1-1657-18360704&div=t18360704-1657#highlight

If you search for her name on the Tasmanian Names Index here
https://linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/
you will see a couple of free arrivals including one in 1837 that would be a good contender for the 1838 marriage.

Note that for the 1838 marriage, one of the witnesses is Richard James, so possibly a relative.
