@ carolaj, Black's references to the short entry for this name are in the parishes of Lauder & Duns. His older stuff relates to the 12th/13th century.

It could also be an alternative spelling of Lee.

I've come across the name Lie/Lye/Ley in the Roxburghshire records, and just assumed these were variants of Lee.
