Latin will of Joan Croftys 1477
« on: Thursday 13 June 19 17:58 BST (UK) »
As some of you know my Latin is poor so I am requesting assistance again.

I only need the highlights, ie

Names
Date of will & probate
Relationships
Places / property

The Croftys/Croftes family link with the Coket mob but the link is being rather hard to prove.

A couple more Latin wills to follow.

many thanks

This will is in English Edward.

It is very, very long, and includes many, many bequests to lots of people - for most of whom I haven't spotted any relationship given apart from the odd 'god daughter'.
I made a start then decided it was too much!

will of Jone Croftye, wife of the late thomas Croftye  of Westhale.

body to be buried at saint Andrews Westhale.

Many bequests to churches etc, a priest to pray for her, her husbands, and friends souls; money for lane repairs

Jone Holbek, god daughter; Thomas & christian children of Ric Holbek
Thomas Cawe (?) a standyng cupp of sylver
Jone Cawe
Jane Jeny
Kateryna Jeny
Edmund Jeny
Agneye Holbek

Many others

The Cawe name and the Holbek name crop up again several times.

Jone Cawe gets a tenement for the term of her life
Richard Holbek gets another tenement at Cheverye(?)

Executors Thomas Dewk (?) ?? Thomas Cage, John Hoo, and Richard Holbeck
Lane, Burgess: Cheshire. Finney, Rogers, Gilman:Derbys
Cochran, Nicol, Paton, Bruce:Scotland. Bertolle:London
Bainbridge, Christman, Jeffs: Staffs

I spotted a few relatives, but I haven’t read to the end as yet ...

[p. 2 lines 3-4] Elisabet Bacon, my nes [= niece]
[p. 2, lines 4-5] thomesyna townnysend, my Dowtyr
[p. 2, line 15] Marget racclef, my nes

Also, I think perhaps Caws (rather than Cawe) ?

ADDED ...
Proved at Norwich, 5 July 1477, administration to the executor Richard Holbek, with power reserved to the co-executors.
8 July 1477, administration also to Thomas Goche[?], priest; Thomas Dewk, esquire; and John Hoo, the co-executors; granted at Westhale by Thomas Payne, Rector of Brampton, specially authorised for this office.

I can see the last letter of 'Caws' is an 's' and not an 'e' now - compared to the last letter of his first name 'Thomas'.
To be truthfull, it took me ages to work out the first three letters were 'Caw'! so didn't really concentrate on the last letter. They all could have been an amalgamation of  several other letters - 'twas pretty tricky to make out!  ;)

Well spotted the other 3 lady relatives Bookbox.
I do remember seeing 'nes', but I'd lost the will to live by then!
