Watson Crownthorpe & Wicklewood
« on: Friday 14 June 19 14:04 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Thomas C. Watson was born in Herefordshire, the son of William Watson.  I have found not found any  reason why he moved to Norfolk?

The first date I have for my ancestor, Thomas Coningesby Watson 1745-1813 in the county of Norfolk, was his marriage in 1775 to Ann Bunn of Wymondham.

Thomas after this lived in Crownthorpe, where he was the Land Steward to the Wodehouse family at nearby Kimberley Hall. He was also churchwarden at Crownthorpe with his brother-in-Law John Bunn

Most of his descendants were of Wicklewood, starting with Armine Watson (named Armine after Thomas' boss-Sir Armine Wodehouse, 5th Baronet (c. 1714 – 21 May 1777)

Do any descendants have any Watson photographs?

Thank you for your reply and help! I'm 74 so have collected quite a few documents myself ;)

I searched for Thomas for quite some time in Norfolk. I also kept a Coningesby file, in the hope that this middle name was that of his mother.

When the I.G.I. was updated (years ago) I noticed a Thomas Coningesby Watson born in Herefordshire. My task then was to prove he was my man!

I searched everything I could.
Then one day I visited the Wymondham Town Archives (In those days only a paper archive) The lady in charge brought out a box marked Watson, in which I found a pedigree which confirmed that the Thomas Coningesby Watson from Herefordshire, was the same as the one who married Ann Bunn in Wymondham.
I have seen various papers of Thomas' concerning the Wodehouse Kimberly Estate. From these he is obviously a well educate man. However, where he was educated or trained for estate management, I have not found in either Herefordshire or Worcestershire, where his ancestors originate!  :-\
Regards and Best Wishes
