Jesse ancestor - origin Brittany?
« on: Friday 14 June 19 16:57 BST (UK) »
I have been going back to find the origins of my ancestors, who have the surname Jesse in Hampshire (Royal Navy men), before that in rural Dorset.

A couple of my Jesse ancestors were at Trafalgar, and on one of them his record in the National Archives for the Royal Navy says, to my surprise, born in France.  It would appear there are some names in Brittany: Jesse, Jessy.

Can anyone help guide me how to look into this further?
Many thanks.

Good heavens   :D
Many thanks for your interest - it will take me a while to look at these!

It was a surprise to find that a couple of my ancestors were at the battle of Trafalgar. One of them was on the Thunderer, he was a gunner - don't know about the other one yet.

Thanks again, and regards
