Just a note that an Elizabeth Pattenden, widow, was buried at East Grinstead, 22 March 1752
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-D4K7-4P5?i=105&cat=149557

and on the BT for 1751/2 (also previous image, right at bottom)

Moving along a bit on those images, the burial of Thomas Pattenden, infant, 2 May 1752.
We know a second Thomas was baptized to Richard and Mary at Grinstead in 1759.

Hello jonw65,

This Elizabeth Pattenden who died 1752 East Grinstead could be the mother of Richard Pattenden who was born 1727 in East Grinstead. This Richard could be mine but the different marriages between a Richard Pattenden and a Mary confusing me. Elizabeth was married to Samuel Pattenden, is there a Will for a Samuel Pattenden? Maybe he mentions Richard and other family members

Hi
I don't think there is a will for Samuel or Elizabeth.
Richard and Mary didn't have a son called Samuel, but, yes, the 1727 Richard must be a possibility.
The marriage of those two is still proving elusive!
John

The marriage between Richard Pattenden and Mary Creasy in West Hoathly 1762 is a possibility but I don’t think they are the right ones because both of them are from the parish of West Hoathly and both of them died there. My Richard and Mary lived und baptised their children in East Grinstead ???

Re: Richard Pattenden Mystery!
« Reply #22 on: Monday 13 July 20 21:21 BST (UK) »
I did some research again because I really want to solve this mystery and really want to find out which Richard Pattenden is my ancestor.

Richard Pattenden who died 1792 West Hoathly had a Will from 1788 where he mentioned his sister Hannah Lambert and his nephews William, Richard and Edward.

I’ve found out that this mentioned sister was Hannah Pattenden born 1730 West Hoathly d/o Thomas and Sarah.

The nephews were all born in West Hoathly and the sons of William and Elizabeth. William born 1746, Richard b.1752 and Edward b.1760.

So this Richard Pattenden who died 1792 is 100% the one born 1726 West Hoathly.

I also found out that Edward Creasey(born East Grinstead 1788 son of Edward Creasey born 1756 and Mary Collins )and Amelia Creasey are Edward Creasey and Amelia Stone who married in Southwark Surrey 1813.

I think Richard of West Hoathly can’t be mine because it’s odd that he did not mention his children in Will. There’s still Richard Pattenden born 1727 East Grinstead son of Samuel and Elizabeth. I really thought the one of West Hoathly is my ancestor because he called two sons Thomas and a brother Jeremiah P. also baptised children in East Grinstead

Can someone help me please to finally solve the problem ???
