 I found a Deborah 1747 & Esiau 1765,Twin of Jacob ?

Some of the children died young, buried Hellingly but no Richard or Mary buried there.

Sussex Family History Group give members online access to Baptisumns and Burials, really worth the money.

I’m sure that the Richard Pattenden who baptised his children in Hellingly can’t be the same Richard who baptised his children in East Grinstead so the Hellingly one is definitely not my Richard  :-\

The marriage of Richard Pattenden and Mary Creasy 1760 in West Hoalthy is a possibility but was it common to marry after the children were born ?

It’s not easy to find the right marriage  :( But i’m glad that members are willing to help me

John 27 December 1753(my ancestor)

Is this the chap buried at East Grinstead, 6 April 1823, age 70?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6MZS-RQ7?i=765

Brief will of John Pattenden of East Grinstead, proved 8 June 1824
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-D1S7-Z4G?i=226&cat=685691

It's actually witnessed by a couple of Creaseys.
Going back to that 1762 Pattenden-Creasy marriage, it seems to say that he was a Weaver. Both of West Hoathly
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DRPS-9H9?i=197&cat=229007

Could they have been an older couple? A burial there, 7 May 1782, Mary, wife of Richard Pattenden, age 68.

Yes, that is  my John who was buried at East Grinstead,1823 age 70. Interesting that  his will mentions Creasy’s so maybe the marriage 1762 Richard and Mary Creasy was his parents marriage  ???

If Mary who died 1782 East Grinstead,68 would have been a Creasy than there is a baptism for her 1714 in East Grinstead, parents Ninion and Elizabeth Creasy .

Is there also a death of a Richard Pattenden in East Grinstead? I can see one in East Grinstead 1788 but no age given

There's a Richard buried in West Hoathly, 29 Oct 1792. They seem to usually give an age there, but not for him!
I don't think Richard in East Grinstead, 1788, likely yours, has an age either.
Richard of West Hoathly left a will, he doesn't seem to be a weaver! From a quick skim through he mentions sisters, nephews, nieces.

pity that there’s no will for Richard Pattenden who died 1788 East Grinstead.

Richard who died 1792 in West Hoathly, could be the one who was baptised 1726 in West Hoathly son of Thomas and Sarah. Also a Hannah born 1730 who could be the mentioned sister Hannah Lambert. But was this Richard ever married ?no mention of a wife or children

Or was he the one who married Mary Creasy 1762 West Hoathly, but I think it’s no coincidence that a Creasy family is shown on a will of my ancestor John Pattenden

Hi Jane 190,

My Pattenden ancestors all came from East Grinstead and thereabouts.

I think that we're looking at the same family.

Still a brickwall  in my research :-\ hope someone can help me to solve the mystery

I think Richard Pattenden and Mary Creasy could be the right couple but if the Mary Pattenden who died 1782 age 68 wife of Richard is the right one she would have been the Mary Creasy born 1714 and would have been 47 when her last child Henry was born in East Grinstead 1761.

What are the reasons for marriage after the children’s birth?

Also 2 men called Creasy were named on her sons Will in 1824

Hi everyone,

I would like to find the right Richard Pattenden and wife Mary, the different Richard/Mary Pattenden couples in the same area around the same time driving me crazy  :-\

I know that Richard Pattenden who married Mary Clark isn’t my Richard because both of them are from Hailsham and they baptised their children in Hellingly so he’s probably the one baptised 1716 Hellingly.

So still two different Richard Pattenden one born 1726 West Hoathly and other born 1727 East Grinstead

Every help is appreciated! The family is a very hard one
