Land Tax Records
« on: Saturday 15 June 19 20:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me with the attached land tax record. I am struggling to understand it.  My ancestor is John Purser at the top of the page.  Was he claiming poor relief or donating funds ?  The document is to large to send the whole page.

Many thanks

As you say this is a 'Land Tax' record, he is not 'claiming poor relief' or 'donating funds'.
It is a tax on his land.
He is given as both the 'proprietor' and 'occupier' of the land -  it doesn't tell you where that land is, and the amount of tax he has to pay is 6 shillings and 6 pence.

For future reference, the image you have posted is only 164 kbs, and so it's pretty difficult to read, as it pixalates when you zoom in on it to read it. You are allowed up to 900 kbs per image here on Rootschat, so it's always a good idea to crop the bit of whatever document you want help with, scanned at a fairly high resolution, and try and get the image you want to send as near to 900 kbs as possible.
There is a help page on the Handwriting Deciphering board somewhere - I'll see if I can find it.

This might help
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,372537.0.html

You'll see it says up to '500 kbs', but this has been increased fairly recently to 900kbs.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for the explanation of the document.    It’s the Natton poor that’s confusing me.  I know Natton is a place in Gloucestershire.  Apologies for the difficulty you had in reading the attachment, thank you for the link.   I have a lot to learn.
