A bit more rummaging in the newspapers reveals that Mrs. Drath's manslaughter charge in 1919 was not her first run-in with the law.  She was similarly accused in 1912 and 1915, both times under the name of H. Drath.  I have found no reference to her as Riehe or Espejo.

As for John V. Rosewaine [formerly known as J.V. Rosewarne, Jr.], I found that he was, at least for a short time, assigned to the naval base in Bremerton, Washington, although this was after the 1932 city directory.  On 30 March 1933, his original orders from Washington, D.C. to San Diego were changed to Bremerton.  This is a bit weird inasmuch as his first wife had just died of tuberculosis in Los Angeles ten days earlier.  He later went to San Diego.
