Hi,
Eleanor Dodd aka Ellen, 1857/1923 was my gt step grandmother.  My gt Grandfather's 1st wife, my grandmother died 1888 & my gt grandfather m Ellen in 1892.    Marriage cert: Thomas Griffiths aged 35, widower, colliery clerk, lived Summerhill, Father Richard m Ellen Dodd aged 34, spinster, lived Wheatsheaf, Father William, a labourer, on 15th September 1892. Witnesses, her siblings, Edward & Mary Dodd. Her Father William d 1899 & Mother Sarah Edwards d 1891 & both are buried at Gwersyllt Parish Church where my Grandfather, her step son, was organist & choir master for several years.  Thomas & Ellen didn't have any children as Thomas had 2 sons when he married her.  The 2nd son was about 18 mths when she married Thomas.
The 2nd son Frank Herschell Griffiths 1887/1927 m Edith May Hughes 1888/1955, so I guess this Hughes family is the one you're referring to??
William & Sarah Dodd had 10 children & he did run the King William at some point I believe.
How else can I help?   And are you related & how?

Sorry got the wrong Mary Ann.  You didn't give any dates for her.

I believe Robert 1811/1866 had a brother William 1821/1899 who was my Ellen's father & he also had a Mary Ann b 1867 who married a Thomas Rogers when I actually looked it all up.

Also my gt grandfather John Bostock 1834/1908 ran the King William. It was his daughter Ann who was Thomas Griffiths' 1st wife, when she died he married Ellen Dodd.  So I got a bit muddled there & didn't look it up before I responded.

All very confusing!

Well we're strictly not related as although Eleanor [my Ellen] married my gt grandfather they didn't have any children.   His 2 sons, the oldest one being my grandfather, were from his 1st wife, so Ellen isn't related to me really.

The Mary Griffiths you mention was not from my Griffiths family, so also isn't related to me!

Where do you live? It's obviously close enough to go to the King William for a drink!  Although I was  born in Rhosddu I now live in Canada.

You may find reference to your Dodd family whilst they lived at the pub if you look on Welsh Newspapers online [https:/newspapers.library.wales/] in the Wrexham & Denbighshire Advertiser.
I found several snippets about my gt grandfather John Bostock when he & his family lived there.

My Griffiths cousin from Summerhill now lives in S Wales & in fact only sold Vale View, Summerhill about 10 years ago.  It had been in our Griffiths family for a little short of 100 years.

Hope you enjoy your drink.

Cheers,
Amberly.
