Sven Harald Siewert - Sweden
« on: Monday 17 June 19 21:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Just trying to find further info on my great-grandfather on my Swedish side.  Are there any useful places/sites to use from the UK?  I think he was born in 1882 in Malmo.  His father was Carl Svensson, I understand that Sven changed the family name to Siewert.

Hi Oli,
Ancestry has Swedish records in its World subscription. Arkivdigital is the best site for Swedish research. It can be daunting, especially without any knowledge of Swedish, but there are plenty of tips and tutorials for beginners on how to use the records.
Knowing where your great grandfather came from is vital. There is likely to be multiple parishes to search in Malmo, but once you get a feel for the records it is fairly straight forward.
Hope this helps.
Darren
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Hi
Here he is in Malmö around 1890. It looks as though he took part of his mother's surname:

I'll dig some other info for you tomorrow.

Thanks Ian & Darren,

As far as I know, he didn't live in the UK but I don't know this side of the family that well so he could well have done.
