Decipher occupation

Hello,

Attached are the occupations of my 3x g grandfather Alexander King, from the 1881 and 1851 census returns.

Is anyone able to make them out please?

It looks like Assistant -do-.  The do is referring to the occupation of the person above and unless you show it, no one will be able to say what type of Assistant he was.

Second snip looks like Annuitant (pensioner)*.  I can't make the first one that though.

* receiver of money from an annuity to be exact.

Annuitant definitely makes sense with later info...

1867 'gentleman' (from a birth cert)
1871 is 'from dividends'
1891 'Game Keeper (retired)'
1901 'Living on own means'
1911 'Private means'

So the head of household is a grocer & oilman, and several members of of the household are working in the business as assistant grocer & oilman.  I am guessing it will be the older sons, and then below the youngest child (“scholar”) perhaps some unrelated employees?

Perfect, thank you. I am not sure I have this line correct now, Grocer's Assistant to Gentleman seems a bit of a leap. Although I believe the family owned a large farm so maybe it all adds up somewhere?

While I am at it, can you make out the occupation here? It is his occupation from his son's marriage certificate.

So at some point he may have come into enough money that he didn’t have to work for a living.  Had a parent died, and have you found a will if so?  What does the 1861 show?
