« on: Tuesday 18 June 19 19:27 BST (UK) »
Hi Im after some help trying to find some more info about my relatives who I believe came to Australia from Clausthal,  Hanover,  Germany  to South Australia by the name of Carl Heinrich Julius Gottlieb BERTRAM b 1831 and Auguste Caroline Henriette Bertram b 1856  came to Australia onboard the 'Herder' in 1851. Married in North Adelaide,  South Australia on 23 March 1853 and had 5 children.  One of whom,  Henriette Bertram born Ironbark,  Victoria in 1859 is my great great great grandmother.  They lived in Burra in south Australia I believe,  thats where she wss married.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

What sort of information are you after, as you seem to know quite a bit already?

Have you checked the Trove site - Australian newspapers?
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/search?adv=y

"Henriette Bertram" (with a "e") drew a blank but "Henrietta Bertram" (with an "a") produced 1 or 2 possibles.

Yes its confusing with so many name changes different spelling,  and a few Bertrams around the same areas (guess all related)  Just cant find storys/articles as to why the seemed to move around or if they are different families.
Henrietta married John Curnow in
Burra they are my great great grandparents.

Hi DianaAUS,

Just a thought, have you considered contacting the Lutheran Archives in Adelaide to see if they can shed any light on your Bertram family.  I did that with my German/Prussian families who came to SA in the 1840s and had some success.

When I visited the Archives I had to pay a small fee for the research.

https://www.lca.org.au/departments/ministry-support/lutheran-archives/

As you probably know, I wouldn't trust any exact spelling of names or which way any middle names might appear, or if middle names are missing.

The Burra History Group Inc might be of interest as well.

Gerry

Thanks for everyone's help and ideas..

I didn't think to look at the Lutheran Church, as I didn't think they were Lutherans!
