Great Grandparents?
« on: Friday 21 June 19 12:52 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I am trying to find the parents of my grandmother.
Her name is Ada Gibbins born Sculcoates, Hull, Yorkshire  on 28 feb 1919
Her mothers maiden name is Tiplady and I assume her fathers name is Gibbins ??? although
nothing is showing them ever getting married.

any help would be really appreciated,
Thanks.

Rot.

Do you have Ada's birth certificate to give her parents' first names, their address and the occupation of her father?

This would be helpful in pinning them down in the 1911.

I do think the birth certificate would be worthwhile getting.

Here's the reference:

Ada Gibbins
1919
Jan-Feb-Mar
Reg district:   Sculcoates
County:   Yorkshire East Riding
Mother's Maiden Name:   Tiplady
Vol No:   9d
Pg No:   288

If there isn't a baptism - and I can't see one - then this is the document that will tell you more detail you can research,

Order from the GRO website and you will be able to get a PDF version of this.

Did Ada marry Edwin A Perkins in Hull in 1943?  Looks like it from the 'married' name showing above hers in the 1939 register.

If so, do you have her marriage certificate, which will show a father's name?

There is a marriage showing on free bmd for a George Gibbins June qtr 1897 vol 9d page 341. Details of a marriage for an Ellen Tiplady, same qtr, vol and page. Could it be worth ordering the cert?

There's this marriage from FreeBMD:

GIBBINS  George     Sculcoates  9d 341
Tiplady  Ellen     Sculcoates  9d 341

The Harold GIBBINS born 1916 mmn TIPLADY is with this couple in 1939.

Do you know of any siblings for Ada?

Maureen

Edit:Sorry! Posting anyway!

This looks very good from lancs-lassie and Maureen - though to be absolutely certain you don't go haring off down the wrong trail, the birth certificate for Ada should be your first step.

Yorkshire BMD shows this marriage as having taken place at St Silas, Hull, and an image of the register can be seen at FindMyPast (listed as Sculcoates St Silas).
